Acupuncture had shown positive effect, of level 1 evidence with the National Health and Medical Research Council standard, for chronic low back pain, osteoarthritis pain of the knee, chronic tension-type and chronic episodic headache, the prevention of migraine, chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, post-operative pain, post-operative nausea and vomiting, as well as perennial allergic rhinitis, in a comparative literature review compiled by John McDonald and Stephen Janz:
