澳洲中醫和台灣中醫的異同以及澳洲中醫的常見疾病

中醫自十九世紀淘金熱潮時開始在澳洲生根，1887年的維多利亞金礦區，大部分的中國人來自廣東和福建，其中約有五十位中醫內科醫師(1)，在墨爾本的小唐人街也能買到中醫藥(2)；在1911年的澳洲甚至有貼著英文招牌紙的中醫藥物可以買。到了20世紀70年代初期，澳洲跟中國建立正式外交關係，中醫在澳洲逐漸蔚為潮流(1)。現在澳大利亞有六個學院提供中醫學士的學程(3)，全國也有中醫協會和委員會等相關組織。
澳洲的中醫學院以英文教授中醫針灸、中醫內科和西醫基礎等課程，目前也有許多中醫書籍被翻譯成英文出版。位於雪梨的雪梨中醫學院、雪梨科技大學和西雪梨大學，以及位於墨爾本的皇家墨爾本理工大學和南方自然療法學院皆有授予中醫學位的課程；在阿德萊德(Adelaide)、布里斯本(Brisbane)、黃金海岸(Gold Coast)、墨爾本(Melbourne)、伯斯(perth)和雪梨(Sydney)都設有分校的澳洲自然健康學院則是有只教授針灸、不需修習中草藥課程的學位(3)。
在澳洲，科學界對於中醫的抵制和懷疑仍不在少數(4)，全民醫療保險並不支付中醫診療(5)，醫院也沒有提供中醫醫療服務(6)。擁有中醫學位的畢業生可以選擇在中醫診所工作並和有經驗的醫師跟診學習，或是到聯合診所和不同專科的治療師們一起工作。澳洲政府目前規定禁用麻黃、麻黃根、附子、炮附子、細辛、關木通、火麻仁、樟腦、巴豆、紅麴、款冬花、馬兜鈴、防己、朱砂和藜蘆等中藥(7)。
澳洲患者求診於中醫的病人多數是婦科或懷孕問題、情緒問題、下背痛、肌肉痠痛和運動性外傷等。由於澳洲人喜歡吃肉和喝酒，以及長時間使用電腦，所以很常見陰虛陽亢和痰濕體質。此外，澳洲是除了南極洲外，雨量最少的洲，所以人體的皮膚很容易乾燥。而被濕熱的疾風分裂成碎屑的花粉則容易引起哮喘；哮喘患者約占人口總數的九分之一，近年約有四百多人因哮喘死亡。
澳洲的中醫在看診時，在傳統中醫學的望、聞、問、切四診合參之中，特別注重問診的部分，問法如下：
精力：Energy (What are your energy levels like?)
胃口：Appetite (How is your appetite?)
大便：Stool (How regularly do you pass a bowel motion, and what is the consistency (texture) of your stool?)
小便：Urination (How frequently do you urinate, and what is the colour of your urination?)
視聽覺：Vision and Hearing (Do your get floaters? Do you experience tinnitus?)
疼痛：Pain (Do you have any pain in your body at the moment?)
口渴：Thirst (Do you get thirsty?)
睡眠：Sleep (How is the quality of your sleep at the moment?)
情治：Emotions (How are you feeling emotionally at the moment?)
體溫：Body Temperature (what is your body temperature like at the moment? Do you have a preference for warm or cold?)
現代的澳洲小唐人街商店賣有當地特產草藥，例如可以幫助男人補腎強精的袋鼠精、補虛羸養心肺增強免疫功能的初乳牛奶、補氣和血養顏美容的羊胎盤、止痛和軟化角質的蜂膠、強壯身體健脾益肝的蜂王漿，以及益氣開胃提高腰力的鯊魚軟骨(10)；其他澳洲原住民常用的草藥並未被中醫使用，例如，茶樹精油、桉樹油、卡卡度果、血紅密孔菌、鴯鶓灌木、蠹蠐螬、菝葜青牛膽、砂紙無花果、澳洲茄、坡柳(11)、水芫花和檸檬草等(12)。
澳洲中醫跟臺灣中醫有什麼差別呢? 在澳洲由於中醫和西醫的交流較少，中醫比較具有傳統性，且澳洲中醫師用的辨證論治方式仍較簡單；而且大多數的澳洲中醫師也是按摩師。澳洲中醫師較常使用十二正經的穴位，臺灣較多中醫師使用董氏奇穴。在澳洲，專業診所會診一個病人需要花一個小時(13)，費用約為五千台幣；在台灣的醫院，中醫內科會診一個病人可能不超過十分鐘，診察費用加藥費只需三百塊。然而中醫就是中醫，無論在澳洲或臺灣，都會把脈、看舌頭、實行四診、論陰陽五行和使用針灸及中藥。
